Aloha Kapolei Ohana,
I would like to welcome everyone to our sixteenth year. Through the years we’ve been able to develop a strong commitment to excellence in many areas. Our students excel in academics, athletics and the arts. Last year the State moved to the Smarter Balanced Assessments as one means of determining a schools performance. The State average in Reading was 54% and Math 30%. Our school scores were 50% and 24% respectively. It is evident that if the academic scores were the only measure we would need to improve tremendously. It is our school’s intent to raise our scores this year to a minimum of 60% in Reading and 34% in math.
In order to get these increases, we will be focusing on reading comprehension strategies school wide. All teachers will be providing reading strategies such as: Marking the Text, Writing in the Margins, or Keys 2 Comprehension. In order to determine if the strategies are making an impact, we will use the STAR protocol to determine individual students’ areas for improvement. Our goal is to share the areas of needs with each student’s team of teachers so they can provide the support throughout the school day.
Our success is based on everyone doing their part. We call this, All In and All There. Our teachers are committed to this positive change, our students must also be committed as well as our parents. You will see this logo
S2 + [ai . at] = C2 associated with our school. It translates into: Student Success plus We’re All In multiplied by We’re All There equals College and Career Readiness.
Please be a part of our goal and help us to reach a minimum target of 60% in Reading and 34% in Math. I look forward to our students and school success. If you need more information, feel free to contact me via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 808-305-8008.
Here's to an outstanding year.
